Songlines Best Group Award winners

Posted on: May 12th, 2017 by Craig Sparkes No Comments

It’s been an amazing start to 2017 for Afro Celt Sound System so far, they received such a warm and appreciative response to their opening slot at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards last month, playing in front of that capacity crowd in the Royal Albert Hall is one of the highlights of their career and now it’s just been announced we have won the Songlines Best Group Award!

“This was a public vote so we really DO owe this one to all our friends and fans who made it happen. We really couldn’t have done this without you all! We will be accepting the award at Womad where we will be headlining the Charly Gillet stage on the Saturday night so if we don’t see you there make sure to come to one of our November tour shows and say Hello afterwards. We will have as our special guests The Dhol Foundation so it’ll be a night full of  energy! Once again thank you all for voting for us in the Songlines awards and see you all soon.
Love, light and unity”

In the mid 90’s…

In the mid 90’s anything was possible in music, Real World Studios and Real World Records became the hub of this revolutionary time in world music. Nothing expressed this better than the Real World recording weeks that gave rise to the Afro Celt Sound System. I am really indebted to Peter Gabriel and Realworld for allowing me to make the 1st Afro Celt Sound System record back in 1994. Realworld have an incredible vision and groundbreaking philosophy. They give a huge amount of support to all us mavericks and outsiders of the mainstream music industry and I’ve now in turn gone on to start my own label ECC Records. It just seemed natural for Dave Botterill, the 1st ACSS mixing engineer and myself to return to Real World to finish the mixing last week. It’s a return to source.
